I plan and deliver sessions in your home or at school, allowing your child to feel comfortable in their chosen environment. I believe in boosting personal values and learning behaviours so that the child can feel more confident and able. I work closely with schools and deliver sessions in the school setting if it is appropriate. Children often work best in small groups, so I can also work with schools to deliver on site.
Having taught in many primary schools over the last 15 years, I have decided that my passion is for inclusion. Too many children find themselves anxious and alone, unable to access the education they need. I work closely with families and fellow professionals to provide your child with bespoke lessons and a much needed boost to their emotional well-being. The long term aim is to re-integrate children into a school setting. I am experienced in teaching from Year R up to Year 6 and have taught Englilsh, Maths, Art, Phonics, PSHE, DT, Science, Geography, History, Computing, PE and Music.
I live with a wonderful partner, Paul, and a big clumsy dog called Vlad. One has trust issues because he has previously been mistreated by others. I'll let you decide which one that is.
I still work in schools to cover teachers' absence or PPA cover. This helps to keep my skills current and I have the added benefit of seeing my lovely past pupils!
In order for a child to thrive, I work on these six core values. This leads to learning about co-operation, team work, self-esteem, self-belief, open-mindset, problem solving and eventually a love of learning.
Recognises feelings, shares with others, feels 'heard', problem solves and finds resolutions.
Manages small change, learns how to ask for help and feels comforted.
Follows simple instructions, tries to do things for themselves, learns to fail.
Finds resources, explores and practises. Exploration and wonder are valued.
Knows that responses are predictable and consistent.
Realises that helping others feels good!
Notices reactions and responses in others. Recognises and responds to feelings in others. Empathy is demonstrated. Waits for turns.
Labels emotions in themselves and others.
Tries again and celebrates the process of failing. Reflects on experiences. Accepts when things go wrong.
Allows others to provide comfort and supports when things go wrong. Values the importance of 'having a go'.
Able to sustain play and activities for extended periods. Collaborates with others and has an interest in their ideas.
Verbalises what focus looks like and tries to be independent and starts to have self-belief.
Shares, takes turns, collaborates. Has a clear understanding of what to expect and what is expected. Predictable timetables and routines feel safe.
Risk assesses their environment and recognises what is not safe. Trusts and bonds with others.
I believe in creating a nurturing environment which fosters emotional resilience. When a child feels comfortable they can start to create and flourish, and this can create a lifelong love of learning.
As an experienced teacher, I specialise in forming positive relationships with children, including those who have had emotional or physical barriers to mainstream education. I am fully qualified and have an enhanced DBS status. I am insured to work with children in their own homes or at school and I am trained in Safeguarding and Child Protection.
